Medication for blood pressure is both a benefit and a curse at times
Blood pressure medication works well to reduce the risk of early death from stroke or heart attack but it brings its own problems too. Many people who take medication for high blood pressure experience side effects and can sometimes feel unwell because of their treatment - in a way that they never did before treatment started. This can lead to even the best motivated person giving up on their blood pressure tablets, having decided that they would rather feel well and take their chances with a high blood pressure than live with fatigue, cough, joint pain or whatever other medication side effect they are experiencing.
But it doesn't have to be like that ! The choice of treatments for blood pressure is vast and most of us will be able to find an approach that works well for us. This might involve lifestyle changes, alternative therapy, medication - or some combination of these three.
The articles on this page will give you a head start in understanding your blood pressure medication but you will find lots more on the site if you look.
